In a down economy, more and more people are turning to work-at-home jobs to supplement their income.

In fact, over the next two years, the number of Americans working from home is expected to rise to 100 million people.

Laura Voigt-Jimenez works from her home in the West Valley for a company called Alpine Access.

Voigt-Jimenez doesn't have a commute or a dress code.  What she does have is a well paying job in the comfort of her own living room.

"We have a flexible schedule," said Voigt-Jimenez.  "We submit when we're available and we're scheduled in between there."

Alpine Access offers jobs in virtual customer service. The company represents clients such as Home Depot and Sprint.

Instead of a call center, Alpine Access farms out the work to home-based employees.

"Once (the employees) are available, calls are just routed to them," said Voigt-Jimenez.  "Once they wrap up that call, they go available and another call comes in."

The Better Business Bureau warns people seeking work-from-home jobs to be aware of scams.

The BBB recommends avoiding work-at-home jobs that charge an up-front fee or any offer you see on a telephone pole.

"There's no out-of-pocket cost (with Alpine Access)," said Dawn Nash with Alpine Access. "It doesn't cost anything to apply, you're not responsible for anything up front."

And unlike some industries, Alpine Access is hiring workers.

Voigt-Jimenez said the company hopes to add 1,200 new home-based employees in the coming months.

"It works," says Voigt-Jimenez. "I don't know if I even want to go outside the home again."
